Introduction
My name is Jane Chong and my portfolio aims to showcase what I have learnt and achieved as a student pursuing art. From a young age, I have always been fascinated by art and how it conveys a story without the need for narration or words. I did not study art during my IGCSEs or A-Levels but I hope to change that as I step into university.

This portfolio consists of artworks, projects and studies I have done over the course of the last few years. It also displays my thought processes as well as my willingness to experiment with different areas of art such as label designs.

Although I started drawing Minecraft avatars as a hobby, I first realised I wanted to pursue art after watching the Dreamworks animated film called 'How to Train Your Dragon'. It is my dream to be able to contribute to making a film that can be relatable to many people and, perhaps, provide a source of comfort during a bad day. Other inspirations come from other animated films such as 'Prince of Egypt', 'Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron' and Disney's recent film 'Frozen 2'. Fantasy elements from a game called 'League of Legends' also inspires me in terms of illustrations and concepts.

Other than films or games, there are a number of artists I look up to. Some of them are Pierre-Oliver Vincent (for his concept arts and illustrations), Laura Price (for her background illustrations), Aliya Chen (for her detailed pieces and lighting) and Ellie (for her distinct and unique watercolour style).

I aspire to work in the entertainment industry as a concept artist or animator. Thus, many of the pieces in this portfolio are of the digital medium and have a non-realistic style. While I understand that digital mediums cannot completely replicate the traditional textures of brush and canvas, it has been a great tool for me to use due to its variety and portability.
With that, I am excited to continue into my next chapter of life learning in an environment where imagination is the only limit. I hope that my portfolio can convey that.
